Dr. Michael Burchell is an expert in high-trust workplaces, culture change, team effectiveness, and DEI.  A global executive who converts organizations from good to great, his work experience includes McKinsey & Company, Great Place to Work®, WL Gore & Associates, and United Minds.

He is the co-author of three business books: Make Work Healthy: Create a Sustainable Organization with High-Performing Employees (2023), No Excuses: How You Can Turn Any Workplace into a Great One (2013), and The Great Workplace: How to Build It, How to Keep It, and Why It Matters (2011).

Michael is a sought-after speaker at conferences around the world, speaking at professional association conferences, human capital summits and events, and corporate leadership retreats.

Dr. Burchell is the founder of Michael Burchell LLC, an executive coaching and workplace consulting firm. He provides coaching and consulting services for the Dr. Nancy Grasmick Leadership Institute, the Droste Group, Dion Leadership, and Loeb Leadership. Michael works with senior leaders across a variety of industries, including healthcare, energy, manufacturing, and professional services. 

Michael brings over 30 years of experience in post-secondary education, manufacturing, and workplace consulting. He has worked with leading global organizations in enhancing the employee experience through design, data, coaching, team development, and facilitation, including as CEO for Great Place to Work® Middle East and Vice President for International Operations for Great Place to Work® Inc., Organization Expert for McKinsey & Company, and an Executive Vice President at United Minds. He also has previous work experience at W.L. Gore & Associates and the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. 

Michael has spent significant time working with clients in the global energy, chemicals and basic materials sectors who are undergoing large turnarounds or transformations, and he has helped them rigorously implement engagement strategies to improve the effectiveness of their performance initiatives. Michael has led organizational design and development efforts with several clients in the legal and public sectors, and DE&I change efforts across multiple industry sectors. 

Michael earned his doctorate (Ed.D.) in social justice and diversity education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, an M.S. in higher education from Colorado State University, and undergraduate degrees in English and sociology from the University of Southern California.

He is certified in the Leadership Circle Profile (LCP), Hogan Assessment (Hogan), DiSC and Five Behaviors (Wiley Authorized Partner), Prosci Change Management (Prosci), Smart Collaboration Accelerator (Smart Collaboration International), Leadership Effectiveness Training (Gordon Training Intl), and Myers-Briggs (Type Resources). He is a member of the International Coaching Federation and the Society for Human Resource Management.

Beyond his practice, Michael works closely with several firms, including The Droste Group, the Dr. Nancy Grasmick Leadership Institute, Loeb Leadership, Dion Leadership, and Hackman Consulting Group, and teaches at Dayton University.
